The winds, while not perfect, finally allowed an offshore bottom fishing trip. We ran out about 40 miles to fish the lumps and 3X5's. We were targeting scamp and mangrove snapper. Only got one keeper scamp, but we got into the big Amberjack. Got 12 big ones, kept 1 each, and we caught some rudder fish and the biggest red snapper I have ever seen. But you know the tree huggers think they are endangered - total BS. The Federal red snapper season doesn't open until 1 June and then only for 6 or 9 days. I am not sure they have decided yet. At least the state waters will be open for 45 days or so starting 28 May. We moved around a lot but could not get away from the big red snapper and AJs. Interesting that we did not get any mangrove, vermillion or triggers. Finally the sharks found us and would not let us put a whole fish in the boat, so we gave up and headed in. It is a good thing we went Tuesday as yesterday the winds were howling again and today Thunderstorms and lightning.
It was good to get out and wet some lines.
