I am about to install a new tank in the boat and need to make sure i am going to get it right the first time.From what i have researched i have 2 options first one is to install with the wedges and rubber strips as it came from the factory and second option is to glue it in with 5200.I think i am going to do the 5200 method just wanted some feedback before i tackle this project.any info is appreciated

I am not sure that 5200 is a good idea. Depending on what the tank is made of, there will be some flexing under loadin addition to expansion and contraction from temp changes. That could crack the 5200 seal. Also, depending on the material, you need to verify compatability with 5200 if you go that route.
If you do it factory style, don't let the neoprene strips contact the tank directly, use a sealant between tank and strip, full face applied, like Lifeseal, then no corrosion can occur under the seal since no moisture wil reach the area. Even if you use vinyl strips, do the same.
If you have to slide the tank on the strips, seal the strips to the tank first then they will stay in place as you slide the tank.
Don't lete the tank contact the floor directly, unless you check the floor surface for anything that can wear into the tank, Grady didn't belt sand the glass surface smooth, didn't have to.

Did it on my 1987.
I wouldn't glue the tank in place with 5200 either. I glued strips of plastic at the contact points. I wedged the tank back in just like it was originally. all my corrosion was at the bottom where the tank contacted the hull.

Good info. I have an 89 Overnighther 80 gal. tank and I am considering pulling it this winter. Any suggestions on where to buy a tank I"m in southern New Jersey.Thanks.

Hey, new here but looking at a 85 Overnighter that needs a new tank. About how much did it cost you for the new tank and how much for shipping?
Also try SP sheet metal in Toms River....they do a great job.....you can request a quote online on their website...just fill in the dimensions......an 80 gallon will be around 700 depending on type of gadgets and epoxy coating.
I am looking for a 65 gal for my Overnighter anyone have a good source for tanks? Any use the plastic moeller tanks?
Read the thread...it lists a couple......as far as plastic, I hear they work good, but finding the exact model to fit an existing space?????
