I recently had two Garmin GPSMAP 8610xsv units flush mounted on my 2007 Seafarer 228 and wanted to share the pictures in case anyone was considering such an upgrade. It turned out even better than I expected and I am so glad to be rid of the clear plexiglass helm electronics door that came from the factory. Shout out to Sea Witch Marine in Vista, CA for the clean install. Wow!!! That's some nice work!! Impressive setup for a 228.

Any in progress pics? Did they have to trim anything behind panel for it to fit?

I’ll take a picture of the backside next time I’m on the boat. They did have to trim out some of the existing dash to make the 10” screens both fit.

Very creative! I'm CNCing' a piece of black acrylic to replace the lower door as we speak. But never considered joining both panels. Sexy look for sure. What type of material is that? Real carbon or a carbon facia?

Very impressive, I like it!! Looking to upgrade electronic-radar etc, not sure what to get. I’m new to the west coast tactic, I mostly fish from Half Moon Bay -Big Sur.

Thoughts?

All depends on your personal preference and budget. The biggest factors forcing my hand in upgrading the electronics were: 1) I wanted radar and the boat didn't have it, and 2) I wanted to upgrade to a 1KW thru-hull transducer for the next fishing season here in San Diego. I replaced a Simrad MFD that came with the boat (have it for sale on BDoutdoors.com presently) and I was happy with that unit. My brother has all Raymarine equipment on his boat - he has a 30' Marlin like you. I am extremely pleased with the Garmin setup I have on the boat now that's its all installed. Here's the laundry list of what went in this off season...

  1. Two Garmin GPSMAP 8610xsv 10" Chartplotter/Sounder Combo w/Mapping Sonar
  2. Garmin GMR Fantom 18 Dome Radar
  3. Garmin Bronze Thru-hull 1KW Wide Beam Transducer w/Depth & Temp - 20 Degree tilt, 8-pin - Airmar B175HW
  4. Garmin VHF 210 AIS Marine Radio
  5. Garmin Steadycast Heading Sensor
  6. NMEA 2000 network
  7. Fusion MS-RA670 Apollo Stereo
  8. Fusion FM Series 7.7" 200 watt Flush Mount Speakers
  9. Fusion FM-S10RW FM Series 10" 400 watt Flush Mount Subwoofer
Now that I have all this installed I should get Garmin to send me a t-shirt or a free bowl of soup our something. It was pricey but will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Pretty funky cut job on the back, but otherwise looks awesome. :)

Wow too cool, I was thinking of something similar for my new Lowrance HDS12 install earlier this year. I wanted to remove the electronics box door and install similar as you did but was hesitant to hack up the box edge to get it to fit , so I chickened out for this season but will rethink that now, I ended up putting it behind the door which is a pain to access the screen and controls thanks for the picks.

The single panel setup is what I was thinking of doing but need to repower first and get new gauges.

However, I was looking into something like this that I saw on Facebook.

Might be another option for those that don’t want to lose that storage and want a 9in screen. Still throwaway if I go to a single panel in the future

that looks great. if you don't mind, what was the cost for the non stereo items?

Was looking for this post to thank for the inspiration...THANK YOU BRO-CAL!!

My version below:

Atlantic Blue I used half inch starboard ($80)
The rest I cut it and designed it myself. Here area few other photos. It will be attached to the boat with L brackets using the hinge holes that are already there. Hope this helps
