Generator space

Hi to all,
I just purchased a 2022 Grady-White Marlin 300 without a generator. With all the trouble I've heard of with the panda diesel generator, when I looked at this boat and saw that it had no generator, it wasn't a deal breaker as I can always bring my portable generator for overnight or long trips. My question is this... has anyone ever used the empty space under the rear seat in a Marlin for anything from Storage to fish hold? I was thinking I could use some starboard and make a removable bin for a large kill bag since fish storage on the Marlin is kind of limited when it comes to larger species. Just wondering what others without generators have used the space for.
 
I have not but the newer design hatch allows the space to be used more easily.

Nice use of the space! If I can protect everything sensitive I don't see why I can't put a large fish bag in there. I don't pick up my boat until next month so I'm just trying to get ideas to get her ready before the season gets going.
 
well if you haven't been in it in the water you will notice the list when you do. the 2021 had a starboard side drain in the fishbox. did not drain due to the batteries. great boat tho. have fun, ron
 
Thanks for the heads up about the list. It's kind of funny because my current 24cc with tower is named "Naughty-List" due to the cross wind pushing on my on my tower as I run. I love my Custom Sheaffer 240V (now for sale), but I imagine when they designed the Marlin, it was meant for a generator which would offset the list due to it being heavy and down low in the center lazarette.
If I can pull this off and use the space for ice and fish, I won't have to clutter the deck with coolers. I'm not too worried about a slight list as I can always compensate with the tabs when running.

the space is not a "fast access" area. you have to deal with the seat, the vertical door and the floor latches (if you don't lock them down it will vibrate). there is a ton of space though.

the Marlin spec should have been with the batteries in the center. relocation to port should have been a part of the cost of installing a genset. GW has been shortcutting stuff, but my dealer informed me that they did get the message and have been changing up.

i installed a Bennett ATP last year and it does seem to work nicely. still learning it.
