Anyone tried this with your windshield canvas?

I completely forgot about Hookups post. At the time I wasn't considering that, but will likely go that route for the front.

    Different grades of enclosure material?

I did a one-piece front panel and wedged side panels all out of 0.040" Makrolon polycarbonate. The front panel is always in place and has a nice clean view with minimal boarders, no center split and no u-zips. The side panels can easily be removed and stowed but they can't be rolled. I modified...

    Remove Windshield from CC...???

This really is a simple job. You need to find someone who has experience sewing Makrolon. This is a rectangular piece that can be curved, a borders, keder awning and zippers. Track top and bottom. The problem is it is a small job. Where do you do your boating?

    Remove Windshield from CC...???

Makrolon polycarbonate 40mil was $100 for a 4x8 sheet. I haven’t brought it lately. If the shop can’t wrap the corners then make a separate piece and zipper vertically. The front piece should be track top and bottom -slide in on bottom and zipper across top. Use Stamoid for borders.

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

They make bulletproof glass out of polycarbonate. However it can be scratched by anything harder. It is hard to scratch and if you buy Makrolon AR (abrasion resistance) it is almost impossible to scratch (ie wiper blades) and what you would use . Polycarbonate cannot be buffed out...

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

Makrolon is made in several grades/thicknesses. It is bendable and sewable but can't be rolled up tight. I use the 0.040" material. It has some treatment for UV and scratch resistance. Like vinyl (Stratoglass) it will last a few years longer if you take care of it. My advice is to do a front...

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

...obviously a lot thinner. It is NOT flexible like your existing "clear vinyl" - although it is not super stiff like a sheet of plexiglass. Makrolon is a brand, although possibly the most widely known. They put some type of extra coating on it. Yes, light scratches can buffed out - I would...

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

...what they would get for your boat. Too far from them to consider. You really need to find a good canvas shop by you in CA who works with Makrolon or other polycarbonate. Stamoid frame. Tenera lifetime thread. 3-sided enclosure maybe $3,000 +/-. No windshield wipers. Most flybridge...

Too Short to See Over Windshield! Step Suggestions?

...depends on what changes, if any, you want to make. If you want everything the same it's fine. But if you want maybe a one piece front or use Makrolon polycarbonate, move a zipper corner, eliminate a zipper, etc. your canvas guy may want to re-pattern. The mid-ship and aft part is usually not...

Removing windshield and replace with full enclosure

Thinking about my next enclosure project. Has anyone seen a GW walk around that eliminated the hard windshield and replaced with an enclosure? I looked at GW's current models. Bigger windshields. Not sure if they are glass or acrylic.
