    New enclosure for my 228

Here are some pictures. This is front panel only. No side panels to give you an idea of clarity/visibility. Side panel installed showing sun tan lotion damage. All panels just cleaned with Windex and 210. Ignore reflections on side panel and glass. Look at the one piece front panel.

Response to several questions... Yes the boat is a 1997 268 Islander. I cut Makrolon with these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XB6D3O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I have purchased but don't like the Tenera. I use v92 polyester top and bottom. "Makrolon doesn't roll...

    New enclosure for my 228

Makrolon doesn't roll as mentioned and therefore if you have to sew an edge to other material , the throat of you sewing machine may need to be deep enough to fit the flat portion of the plastic. Several folks on the sewing boards have mentioned good results using two different threads...

...and right side half). These strip float and can be removed. The enclosure has a full border of Sunbrella Marine Navy that is sewn to the Makrolon. Note that the Makrolon is attached to the border - not to the kedder strip or down to the snaps on the bottom. All Sunbrella attachments. On my...

...strip that uses the original track? If you can sew .040, might it also hold a snap, without all the fabric blocking the view at the top of the windshield? Where are you guys getting Makrolon? I would love to have a sample if you have any remnants. We need a pic with the contact paper removed.

    New enclosure for my 228

Nice job Seafarer_Bob! I did my front (one piece) and 1/4 side panels in 0.040 Makrolon VR. The is no noticeable flex when running. The 0.060 Makrolon Marine 5 is treated and is 6 time the price!. Both are bendable but not rollable. Its all great stuff for marine applications. I can sew the...

    New enclosure for my 228

The hard panels are .060 Makrolon polycarbonate, it's clearer to some degree but the big difference is there is no distortion since it's a hard flat panel. The canvas shop said it's easier to maintain, more scratch resistant, and will last longer so we'll see. It was an expensive upgrade...

...thru it. I have no wiper and won't ever replace it because it would be useless. I have to be able to open the front because I run at night a lot and thats the only way to see. Hopefully if I get Makrolon it will be much better. I've never been a fan of smileys as they are the first thing to fail.

    Enclosure thoughts

I don't like the the enclosure and zippers getting in the way of my view. I went to single piece of Lexan/Makrolon for the front. I never take it out and use the windshield and wipers to see when the enclosure gets fogged up. The vent window work well and the side panels are easy zip outs if...

    Sailfish Enclosure

I'll do that first thing. The quote I recieved for the front - Makrolon 60 and sides - Strataglass 40 (including new canvass and front windshield cover) was $3,000.

...for your instruments. It was much easier for me to cut those holes before I epoxied the wings on. As you asked in the board mail, Makrolon/Lexan/polycarbonate was hard to find in small quantities. A big panel of the stuff is very expensive (to me at least). I ordered my 1' X 2' X...

    Gulfstream Helm Console Upgrade

...still use the storage of the electronics cabinet without cutting a hole in the top of the cabinet. What I did instead was to buy a piece of makrolon (Lexan), cut it to size, and add side "ears" to close in the front of the cabinet. To ease the strain on my neck, I have the front glass set at...

    New dash for 208 Grady

Sal, Makrolon is a polycarbonate. I got a piece from interstateplastics.com (12" X 24" X 3/8" for $17, then they added on $15 for minimum charge and another $15 for shipping). I would be interested in hearing where mtcfish got his from. Makrolon is like Lexan (GE's proprietary name for its...

    New dash for 208 Grady

I'm working on my electronics cubby in front of the helm right now too, and using Makrolon also. I'm really interested in how your fabrication job went. I haven't cut mine yet... I plan to hinge my panel at the top and set at an angle so I can see the flushmount units better. This...
