We had the very same problem. It was a bad switch. We separated the spreader lights from the dome light. Put a standard toggle switch inside the top box for the spreader lights and bought a new standard LED dome light with both bright light and red light for at night. All good now.

Does anyone know how to remove the dome light to access and replace the spreader light switch? I’ve removed the cover and the 2 small nuts. The light is still solid as a rock and I don’t know what’s holding it on.

On mine I removed the two nuts holding the reflector in place, removed the reflector and there were two screws holding the housing in place.

can you fill me in on how to remove this dome light? I’ve taken both bolts out and it won’t budge. I don’t see how it’s even still on?!

They changed the style of the dome light recently. Go easy and pop the cover.

Maybe. It depends on the draw of the spreaders. If the draw is more than 4 amps, the breaker will probably trip if lit for extended periods of time. If the draw is less than 4 amps, you should be fine
