...the batteries and then disconnect. You do not leave a charger connected to the batteries. It is also recommended that you unplug the trolling motor from the batteries when you are not using or planning on using the trolling motor. in a nut shell, charge the batteries before a trip and do not...

    New Addition This Year

I wanted to share the last thing we did for this set-up and that was the RAM mount to hold the trolling motor in place. We bought new clamps for the rail and shaft of motor using the body of the mount Rhodan shipped to us.

    Freedom / tournament 225 vs 275

...& 2 on the back-to- back passenger seat. Yeah it's a bit tight for any kind of serious fishing, but if fishing is the reason I'm out I'll only have 3-4 at most with me. For day-boat friends and family hanging out, it's great. It's also easy to mount a trolling motor to the bracket on a 225.

    Update or upgrade?

...some reading in this forum, some considerable $$ for sure) and then buy two used 200-250hp outboards as an 'upgrade'. I'd also love a trolling motor with spot lock, outriggers, and to upgrade electronics, but those will likely have to wait a little bit. I don't have a livewell / raw water...

    New Addition This Year

...So, if you have two 50amp-hr batteries in parallel, you effectively have 100amp-hrs on that battery "bank". To determine how much run time you will have, you need to know the amp draw. If the device (trolling motor, fridge, whatever) draws, say 20 amps, the runtime is 100amp-hrs / 20 amps= 5 hrs

    283 vs 306 canyon

I'm definitely a bit of a fair weather fisherman as well as a bit on the frugal side, but my goodness I simply couldn't justify spending over $4k a year just on fuel costs alone for my boat. On top of that you've got other maintenance, insurance, bait/gear, ice, food, drinks and everything else...

    WTB PULPIT/RAIL FOR 208

...work, even though it's currently on a 268 Islander. Its 45" long. I believe the 208 version was 42", but not 100% sure. Not in the best shape, but I can fix it. Spot lock sure is nice. I mostly fish anchored for hours on tidal rivers with ripping current. It would work a trolling motor to...

Newbie needs help please_FIRST boat- new vs. used GW?

You said that you worked hard in order to be able to fish, so go ahead and put a good trolling motor on that boat, and use it to leave and approach the dock when the water is low.

    Freedom / tournament 225 vs 275

Here’s the background. I am looking for a blend of a fishing and family boat. Currently I own a pontoon set up for trolling and fish the Great Lakes for salmon and walleye. I want a more capable big water and trailerable boat but the wife needs seating/lounging room for 5-6. I need to be able...

Trolling motor mount suggestions for Freedom 255

I have a 255 Freedom. I went with the 84” Rhodan, 36 volt. I have been out in 3’+ seas with heavy current and it holds the position and does not cavitate. I bought the Grady trolling motor mount. It works well but was pricey.

Trolling motor mount suggestions for Freedom 255

I just purchased a 2015 Freedom 255. I'm interested in mounting a geo-locking trolling motor to the deck. The boat does not have a windlass so I think there's room. I'd like to do something that would be removable. Is anyone aware of a trolling motor with enough depth to reach from the deck to...

    Refurbishing Yamaha Outboards

I think the two biggest considerations will be the cost of repairing vs buying new, as well as the availability of parts for outboards that have since been discontinued for quite sometime. Does the one motor that quits while trolling ever quit when going at faster speeds or is that literally the...

    Refurbishing Yamaha Outboards

What are the motor models? When the motor stalls while trolling, what revs are you running. Also, does the motor just die or does it shudder first. The first case is often due to low fuel delivery rate/pressure and can be a filter, low pressure fuel pump, or a out of spec idle rev ( not likely...

    265 Express/Suzuki DF200APXW2

Sometimes when we troll for salmon, we can get down to 1-1.5 mph, so I'll have to see how it does before I decide to remove the kicker. Most of the hours I put on the mains is running out for Albacore (40-50 miles) and trolling around for those. But that was my comfortable range on my old boat...

    265 Express/Suzuki DF200APXW2

I troll stripers as low as 3 mph with one motor & autopilot, in the ocean with a breeze & waves. It'll probably do less if you run one, trim it up a bit and trim the dead one down all the way. Dunno how well AP will work going idle speed if there is any kind of waves or wind. I absloutely hate...
