there are some models that just tend to sit low in the rear even if dry and not fully loaded. the Chase sits low in the rear, many with the through hulls at or even below the water line

at this point, i think you need a professional evaluation. hopefully the damaged area is limited to what you have already found and can be repaired somewhat inexpensively. this is why you should always get a full survey before you purchase a boat.
