    Winter canvas storage ideas

I saw those a while back. Nice, but pricey. $100+ and the bag only holds 3 pieces. When I rolled the canvas for onboard storage (when not using it) with my Sea Ray (had full camper canvas... basically, the entire cockpit was covered and usable), I used the canvas bag that came with the set...

    Winter canvas storage ideas

Not everybody lives in an area where winter boating is easy. Using curtains in very cold temps is bad for them as they can crack and break.

    new tanks

I can't think of any reason why redirecting them would be a bad idea. Seems more like common sense? For the hose, sitting on the tank, thing... you could have the tank coated... or at least just coat the area where the hose may touch (where water can get trapped) with epoxy or even just smear...

Trailer Winch strap Orientation on 208 Adventurer?

As mentioned, re-wrapping it while on the trailer so it comes over the top is the way to do it and certainly there's no issues doing it while the boat is still on the trailer - that's totally fine. One note... you may not get it totally tight around the drum at first. Just keep winding and...

How tall is a Freedom 235 on a trailer

I just looked and Grady's website lists the bridge clearance as 8'0"? But, if you add up the numbers you posted, plus the approximate 2' estimate from keel to ground on the trailer, you're getting awful close. With the 8' BC, it's extremely close. If it was me, I'd be discussing this with my...

How tall is a Freedom 235 on a trailer

You won't be able to get an exact spec due to differences in trailers. However, to get a really good idea - you can see the specs for the boat on Grady's website and add about 2' to that. If you look in your manual, there is typically info in there, as well - maybe even more specific (I think...

Doing the Prop Math on my Adventure 208

Checking the anti-ventilation plate is a good idea - roughly speaking, 1" higher than the keel for every 1' of setback. What's the max RPM for your motor? You'd be amazed at what some slime and minimal growth can do - there's a good chance that's the issue right there. Has your mechanic done...

    Trailer sizing for Gulfstream

Don't overthink this. Add up the weights and you have your number - no reason to compare to anyone else. Numbers don't lie. Then decide on who you're going to buy from and the type of trailer that suits the way you will use the boat (not anyone else).

    Trailer sizing for Gulfstream

As I always say, I'm not going to do the math for you - it's simple enough. But, I can certainly offer some guidance. -- You can't buy a trailer based on how you "think" you will load it. You must buy the trailer based on "loaded up". To do otherwise would be foolhardy -- Fuel is about...

    Winter canvas storage ideas

If you don't currently have anything under your bed, slide them under there (with cheap sheets cut to size in between). You could wrap them around the PVC pipe and then put the whole thing in a canvas bag - the pipe helps to keep them from wrinkling. Another option is a simple and cheap...

What would cause this and what would it take to fix it?

Actually, not all that odd. But then it depends on how many boats you see! :) It's aesthetic only - no worries about water getting through that crack and into the glass when above the waterline. Windshield removal seems daunting if you haven't done it much - but it really is pretty easy. If...

What would cause this and what would it take to fix it?

Stress cracking - it's cosmetic only as it's the gelcoat, not the fiberglass. It happens (although not always) when a screw is put into gel/glass without a proper pilot hole and chamfering. The idea is to NOT let the screw heads touch the gelcoat. It's also possible that things shifted over...

Running Trim Tab Cables on a 180?

It'd be easier to use one drag line and pull them all together at the same time. Spray some silcone spray on the bundle as someone else pulls them through. Use plenty of tape at the front end to make it smooth.

    Thru Hull transducer

OK. There are some boats/hulls where the area is simply flattened out - but not actually recessed. Defnitely don't want the ducer mounted up inside the "hole".

    Thru Hull transducer

Is this "flat" area physically recessed - or just a flattened-out area of the hull?

    New owner.240 offshore

You checked the impeller? How was the wear plate? It's a little hard to follow what you are saying - can you re-read/add punctuation/capital letters/etc? "Outa" stern drive... what is that? "Out of the sterndrive?" Where? "Outa plug hole"... same thing... huh?

    New owner.240 offshore

Asking an hourly worker at a place like Autozone to get marine parts? Good luck! The statement "a deer in headlights" is an understatement. If it's not right there on their screen, forget about it. It's like asking a McDonald's cashier to manually make change! Now, some NAPA stores can...

232 Gulfstream: Props & Motor Height...

Like Lee said, observing the anti-ventilation plate is a great way. If need be, use your phone and video it. Another easy way to check is to just see what kind of RPM's you get at WOT and trimmed up as high as possible till ventilation or no more speed increase. If you can get near the max...

Handrails and Rust...... How to address

What Seasick said. Research "crevice corrosion". Stainless steel stains less... But it needs oxygen to self protect itself. This is where that crevice corrosion comes in - small, minute pockets where moisture can gather. This is actually why you never see SS fittings used below the...

    what would you do?

I bet with all of his other senses being heightened, the sounds/vibrations/wind/noises... must be pretty exhilerating! My younger sister (40yrs) gradually started to go blind around age 10 and has been a couple decades, now. Earlier this year, while walking through some grass towards the...
