    2004 273 chase windlass

Time consuming is a good way to put it as it's quite involved. Not all shops want to do this during the season - some don't want to do it at all - keep checking around. But again, a lot of this depends on your skill set and comfort level. It's probably not worth getting into the nitty gritty...

    2004 273 chase windlass

Do you have some pictures of the area? When you say "no one"... does that include a shop or dealer? What is your comfort level with drilling holes in your boat and doing electrical work?

    Seafarer 227 Windlass

Take a look at where you can place it and measure the "fall". Compare that to your chosen windlass manufacturer/model and it's specs. Are you planning on a vertical or horizontal windlass? How comfortable are you with the wiring? Look at the installation/wiring diagrams that you can download...

226/228 owners - do you pull the plug?

No, bilge pumps will never get all of the water out. Too many variables to say how much will be left in... size of bilge, shape of bilge, placement of pump, type of pump/float, check valve or not... you get the idea. But a few gallons, give or take, is probably about right for the amount left...

    180 Sportsman Trim Tabs

Ah, OK. Now I see what you're getting at. Bennett's SLT's are very similar to Smart Tabs, by Nauticus. Pretty much the same idea. I have zero experience with the SLT's, but I have LOT'S of experience with Smart Tabs on many different boats. The short of it... YES, you would be VERY happy...

    180 Sportsman Trim Tabs

What's a "TL"? The OP was first talking about Lenco's, but then it morphed into the Bennett system and didn't your mention of this "TL" in previoius posts? By bare fiberglass, do you mean gelcoat? Or do you think the gelcaot is paint and you're wondering about sanding off the gel to get to...

    180 Sportsman Trim Tabs

You still working on this? C'mon, man, drill some holes and get 'er done! :) But, really, don't overthink this - use the info you already have (above) and the directions with the system and the help info available on their website. All of that info is MORE than enough for this as it's really...

    208 cabin leak

If by "common", you mean for problems to arise from improper care or maintenance... then, well, sure! I'm not sure how to else to answer that :)

2005 Marlin 300 Fuel Select Valve Question

If you turn the switch to 'off', which engine eventually dies out?

Should bracket on 228 be air tight

I mean this in a nice way, but... you're overthinking this one. Pressure is a part of life. The bracket is just fine as designed - afterall, there are more than a couple brackets out there on boats with no issues. ;)

    Enclosure thoughts

In that case, I would go with the style that is easier to use on a daily basis. Don't worry about changing the snaps - they'll be fine. You're only adding the weight of the zippers and thread.

    Enclosure thoughts

That would then be a "frowny"... seriously - that's what you call it! :) I prefer smilies - if you do a frowny and roll it down, the rolled part ends up being (at least partly) in the way of your vision. And letting it just lay down on the dash is a pain as it's either in the way or it starts...

    Rub rail protector

I thought it might not be a huge swing - but still about 6', so decent. But you're right - further north (I'm in Friendship, ME) it is larger. So, here's another idea - although it's just a spitball type thing... With some large, SS band clamps, secure a 3' piece of 4x4 to the pole about 2'...

    Fuel Tank Question

The gauges are consistent, but not always accurate. That is normal. It depends, largely, on the shape of the tank. This is true in many cars, too - it's just not something you ever really think about in a car. Every car I've had goes through the gallons faster once the gauge gets to about...

Hot Water Heater 330 Grady Express

Yup - the hot water heater will always fill before you can get pressure anywhere else. Meaning, if you've already been using your fresh water tank, the HWH has been full this whole time. It may not be completely full though (air pocket) - so opening a hot faucet till a good stream comes out is...

    Rub rail protector

A while back, I had a boat where I did the "poor man's" anchor roller thing. The rope never caused any damage to the rail - I had about 6' of chain and I would always just stop there and then lift it and anchor over. But, sure, a split hose secured with a bunch of zip ties can't hurt. But it...

    Rub rail protector

Don't go too crazy with inspecting it. While there is merit to a chain being more durable, the primary reason for chain is help the anchor set (and stay set) better. All rope will be just fine - many, many boaters use rope only. Tip: If you aren't doing this already, launch and retrieve the...

    Rub rail protector

There is another idea - but it really does depend on length of chain. But, knowing your current "condition"... it's probably even more about how much chain you have - maybe going back to all rope for a while would be easier.

    Rub rail protector

Oh... anchor chain... minor scratches can be buffed out. But, how much anchor chain do you have? One option is to install an anchor roller. You have really good access so it would be very simple. Look at Windline website for examples (good manufacturer).
