Air Conditioning and Solar - curious

And THAT, ladies and gentleman, is how we get our bigger boats! ;)

Air Conditioning and Solar - curious

It's not something I'm intending to debate, either. There's just so much misinformation out there (and "I read it on a forum so it must be true" stuff) that I mention it simply for people to be aware of the actual risks. At least this way they know the facts and can better make their own...

Air Conditioning and Solar - curious

I agree that it's important to be aware of, and manage, your risks. But portable generators DO impose different risks than a properly installed genny. For one, when at anchor, boats will always face into the wind. Putting the genny on the bow means the wind will blow the exhaust toward the...

Air Conditioning and Solar - curious

If you think about it, your cabin really isn't all that big (cubic feet). A small bedroom at home is larger and a 5K window unit A/C works plenty well. From my world of "Sea Ray" boats (cruisers), 6,000btu is very common size on small cabin boats. If you go larger, I'd try to stick under 10K...

Air Conditioning and Solar - curious

I looked up, albeit quickly, a new DometicA/C unit (6K BTU) to see it's specs. It's running wattage is approx 600W, but it's "kick-on" wattage can be as high as 4,300 watts. Google some solar panels and see what they put out. I have a feeling, like SeaSick mentioned, it's not feasible - or...

    306 Canyon Seat Backs

Not for nothing, but that seems like an excellent question for your dealer? There's always the possibility that the design has changed for 2019 and, if my memory is working, I don't think there's an active member here with a brand new Canyon. Or, maybe there is mention of it in your manual...

    what does this wire do

What year boat? Have you had it since new? A previous owner could easily have fished it through the chase. 10g is big enough that it could be a feed to a fuse panel. But it should go through a battery switch... making me think it might be something installed by a previous owner. The only...

Starting to regret buying this boat

Sounds like you got it under control with your helper, but for future reference... is there something here that would work for your setup? These "push" the fluid through from the coupler/master cylinder. https://www.motiveproducts.com/collections/marine-bleeders-and-extractors

Starting to regret buying this boat

Well, that's just ridiculous. What they're really saying is "We don't want to do that because we haven't done it before and don't want to take the time or effort to "think" about it and realize that it's really no different than a car with no abs".

Special approach to cutting through the silicone holding the floor panels in place

Well, the "best" way is to install a perimeter string before recaulking - then just pull the string to cut through the caulk. Short of that, I'm not sure there is really any one best way. A new razor blade works just fine - use plastic if you're concerned about scratching. A little soapy...

2004 282 Sailfish Guest Battery Charger Question

Trying to remember... I'm sure there was some type of initial setup that I did (for the battery type charging profile). But after that, I never touched it - even though it was very easy for me in that boat's bilge (I could sit/stand on three sides of the engine!). Although I didn't use it, I...

    Broke off through hull...

No need for pics - with your last description I understand. I do agree with Seasick - inspect those hoses REALLY well - if they are also a quarter century old, the last thing you want is to have to do a "do-over" in a short time because of the hoses. There are easier hoses to work with...

    Broke off through hull...

I'm still not quite following what is left in the hull and the problem you're having there. It sounds like it can just be punched/pushed out (from the inside). But if it was that easy, you probably wouldn't be asking. Or how about jamming something into the piece on the outside of the hull...

98 232GT Gulfstream replacement sink faucet?

Check the aerator - it may have just been plugged and the debris that was in there has dried out - allowing water to flow through... for now. That's very common on boats as some don't take care of their water system.

    Broke off through hull...

Use a reciprocating saw blade, by hand, to cut the piece inside the hose. You're not having a problem with the part still in the hull, right? 26 years old... not a bad lifespan for plastic!

98 232GT Gulfstream replacement sink faucet?

Out of curiosity, are you replacing for aesthetic reasons or because it's not working correctly?

2004 282 Sailfish Guest Battery Charger Question

In regards to your question about plugging in, some models do have a plug (although it can be cut off) - but there are plenty of chargers out there set for hardwire right out of the box. I'm very familiar with this stuff on boats like Sea Ray's, but I couldn't definitively answer your question...

    Deck delamination

My Grady is older - sorry, I wouldn't know. Maybe it's mentioned in your owner's manual? Or ask Grady? However, regardless of the type of wood, that doesn't prevent delam from happening. I'm not saying it IS happening, of course - just offering a common explanation. Well, let me change that...

Starting to regret buying this boat

Breathe... ohmmmmmmmm... this too, shall pass. You get the idea :) If wired correctly, the battery switches should make no difference whatsoever in regards to the onboard battery charging doing it's thing. However, you would need to turn on the main AC breaker, along with the breaker for the...
