Thanks for the replies. I ended up drilling out holes in each holder and using a home-made bungee solution. $9 and about 30 minutes of work and hopefully I'll never have to buy another one of those silly rubber bands again!

Thanks for the advice. Since this is the softer, squishy type of vinyl...not a hard plastic...I'm not sure you can paint it. Regardless, I just broke down and spent the $250 to order a new one.
