Best $280 in labor I’ve spent in a long time

I just did mine a couple weeks back and I would've happily paid twice that to have someone do it for me. Great deal.

    282 Sailfish repower

I would go 225s only because high hour newer motors usually mean than were taken care of or they wouldn't hit the 1000hr mark. It's being used constantly which is better than 25 hrs per year for the 2008s. Again I don't think you need the repower, but if you're set on it, I'd rather have high hr...

    282 Sailfish repower

What year are 225s? I only ask because 300 hrs in 14 years would worry me.

    282 Sailfish repower

Any chance you can email me the the f250 performance sheet. I thought I had it saved but can't find mine. All good points made above. And if you do go with 250s like smoky said the 4.2s will save you weight.

    282 Sailfish repower

Those numbers really aren't bad. If memory serves me correct my best numbers are around 3800-4100 35ish mph at 1.6 mpg. You're gain in cruise and rpm will be small. But there is a difference in plane time and power and obviously no oil filling to worry about. 2001 is rated for 450, but I...

    Deck Drains

I just installed these. Keep in mind, you will need a way to secure the black portion to the under side of hull if you ever decide to unscrew and clean out. If it's not secured under the hull, when you unscrew the stainless portion, you'll never get it threaded back on as the black portion will...

    282 Sailfish repower

I have a 2001 with 05 f250s. She doesn't necessarily sit low but the port and starboard deckdrain scuppers are just at the water line. What kind of performance difference are you expecting with the f250s vs the hpdi?

    Cockpit drains...

Ok not to side track thread but just a little update. Getting those hoses off the thru hull was a PITA!!!. Had to use a vibratory tool. Nothing else worked. I originally was going to just take the hoses out along with the thru Hulls, but the thru Hulls but seemed to be bedded in 5200. So I left...

    ATF or Yamaha fluid

I'll be honest I never used my check relief valve and don't even know what it looks like. As silly as it is, I never had a need for it. I will do a Google search and find it and take your advice on trying to turn it without damage. Also I have a manual oil pump that I just purchased to do an...

    Rod storage

    ATF or Yamaha fluid

Yeah I don't see any signs of a leak, sheen on water or full rainbow effect when I've inspected it. But your right it must be leaking from somewhere because my out board drops slowing over a couple of weeks.

    ATF or Yamaha fluid

Same here. Mysterious leak slowly drops outboards over a couple of weeks. I don't see any sign of where it's coming from. I may give a try!!

    Replacing cockpit floor drains

I know this may be slightly different as I have a 282, but I just cut an 8" hole over the weekend on the starboard side wing. I went as close to the deck as I could and as close to the transom door as I could. It definitely widens up a lot. I have about 10 inches depth to work with. I actually...

    Cockpit drains...

I second the fact that depending on the age of the boat, if those deck drains are damaged I bet the hoses are worse. Im just starting this project after putting it off last year. When I seen the condition of the hoses I almost threw up. I'm not joking, I broke out in a sweat thinking all the...

    Bilge pump discharge routing?

Not sure about everyone else, but I've just got into the habit of using double clamps over the past few years. I feel like if it's drilled into my brain to double the clamps regardless of location, then I won't be tempted to "cheat" when doing a repair in a tight spot.
