Replacing generator with inverter on 330 Express

Update on the project! The install went smoothly and pretty much exactly as planned. This pic shows all the main components. The view is of the starboard side of the bilge area with the batteries sitting in the spot where the old diesel fuel tank used to live. The inverter/charger is mounted...

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

Yeah I would have definitely gone Lithium and dockside AC charging if I didn't spend that month away from my dock. But ironically that's also when I'm most likely to be using the inverter! I still can't figure out why outboard manufacturers don't offer an upgrade to generate 120v AC -- seems...

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

I'll post a full write up with pictures once the system is installed, but just FYI, here's my thinking and some rough math. Firstly, my use case is perhaps a little unusual. Except for 1 or 2 overnight fishing trips per year (if that), 100% of my trips are day trips. I boat off Cape Cod, so...

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

I'm in the process of replacing my original 2003 FP on my 330 Express with a 2000 watt Mastervolt inverter. My only use of the generator was making a quick cup of coffee or using the microwave for a few minutes, so this should work great for me.

    Outrigger mount question

For what it's worth, the previous owner of my 330 installed Lee's Sidewinder rigger bases close to the aft of the hard top with backing plates, but not otherwise supported. I leave my riggers extended at all times and have had no sign of problems. I have 18' Lee's carbon riggers which are much...

    LED Lightbar question

Even with the single row bar which is just over 2" high as I recall, I had to mount it pretty far back on my hardtop to avoid lighting up the bow rail... That's why I have it off to one side instead of centered.

    LED Lightbar question

Here's my install - also a Black Oak 20" single row. https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/adding-20-single-row-light-bar-to-grady-330-express-hard-top.31268/ I only use it momentarily when navigating out of my harbor in the pitch black. It works incredibly well.

Tips on removing batteries on 330 express 2008 and up

Wow - that's horrific! Far far easier on my 2003 330... On the other hand I'm removing my generator and diesel fuel tank and replacing with an inverter + dedicated battery bank... So my bilge access is about to improve markedly.

Ring Free or not on new engines?

I've always used Ring Free from when my motors are new, but switched to Marine Techron the last few years. Impossible to say if it's had any benefit, but I supposed it makes me feel better!

    Express 330 Cabin Dimension

Hmm - I'm only 5-8, but off hand I'd say you will not be able to stand up all the way straight in the cabin or head, but you should be able to sleep in the v-berth and mid-berth just fine. The mid-berth is way more comfortable in my opinion... On the other hand you'll be able to reach all the...

    TAKING ON water

On a dry day (no rain), how often will the pump activate? If it's doing it more than once I'd definitely be concerned, because of course that means water is continuing to fill the bilge over time. The technical nautical term for a boat with this condition is "sinking!" ;) If you're brave you...

    How does beam affect ride?

No expert here, but I read through: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0877422893/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and, as I understand it, for running into a headsea, the longer and narrower the boat, the better. I experienced this first hand when I spent a bunch of time on an...

    Adding Bow Thruster 330 Express

Definitely do it -- should be an easy install since the boat was designed for a thruster and they should be able to place it exactly in the intended spot. I lost my thruster due to it sucking in a dock line (stupid me), and not having it totally sucked! Fortunately it was just a prop...

    Water Smells In Freshwater Tank:

I find that I need just a couple of ounces of bleach in my freshwater tank to eliminate any of that bad smell. I keep a small bottle on board and I just pour a little into the tank at the beginning of the season when I fill the tank. I never drink the water, though!

How To Remove Gas End of Season

Good point on the Ring Free Plus -- my marina actually adds stabilizer in any event, but I actually switched to Chevron Techron Marine a few years ago...

How To Remove Gas End of Season

In Massachusetts we only have 10% ethanol gas. Many years my last tank fill is in early October and then I may not actually use up that tank until the following June or July. I always use Ring Free Plus or Chevron Marine additives which stabilize. I've never had any fuel issues in over 10 years...

    New Helm Seat 330 Express

I have a Stidd 500N series which is 23.5" wide including the arms. If I were to replace I'd be looking for something closer to 22 or 23" wide as it's a tight squeeze pas the helm seat. Also would want to be able to mount a grab bar on the back of the seat if it didn't have one already! (I put my...

    12v coffee maker?

I'm doing an inverter project on my 330 Express and one of the main objectives is running my Keurig as well as my George Foreman grill and microwave -- all just for a few minutes. It's doable, but quite a lot of DC current. Basically divide the wattage by 12 and the multiply by 1.1 to account...

Replacing generator with inverter on 330 Express

re: 100A fuses on the Aux charging cables, Yamaha sells 2 versions, 1 with expensive 100A breakers and another without anything, so I figured 100A fuses were the right ones. I'm planning to use the Blue Sea MRBF terminal mount ones which are pretty cool because the fuses go right onto the...

Replacing generator with inverter on 330 Express

Yeah - mechanic said the electrical side was "locked up" and I didn't want to throw any more money on it. I use it so little that even the annual winterizing maintenance isn't really worth it for me. I literally only use it for a few minutes for quick meals and coffee, and I love the idea of...
