    Trolling Setup from Scratch

Koaki, I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to accomplish or how you fish so it really depends. I fished out of Kona on a friend's 21' Whaler a couple times, he fished his bent 80's (penns) off the corners and we fought (and lost) a big marlin at the boat fighting it from the gunnel...

    LED spreader lights recommendations

I saw that post which inspired me to install this one under my pulpit https://offbrandproducts.com/products/aurora-10-inch-marine-white-led-light-bar Very bright and no glare on the trails but I do need to take my anchor off the pulpit if I'm making a long run because i get some reflection...

    ProMariner 20-amp 3-bank charger

I don't understand this. Are you running your 12v pump and accessories and blowing fuses while you're charging at the dock or are you blowing fuses on your charger while you're at sea disconnected from AC? The latter wouldn't make sense unless you have a generator. Either way I don't think...

    New enclosure for my 228

Hookup, thanks and I'd be interested to see more photos of your setup. I don't have an electronics box so the two panels will flip in independently and I'm planning to make a storage bag for when I need to take them off. The installer said I'd have a problem with a one piece front because my...

    New enclosure for my 228

I have not run it yet or even seen it besides the pics they sent but looking forward to it. The sample they sent is very rigid so I can't imagine flex will be an issue but that's why it stops short of where the wind shield begins to bend around the corners. It took considerable force to bend...

    LED spreader lights recommendations

I don't have the bulb model handy but I replaced the bulbs of the step lights and the cabin dome this summer, it cost about$10 - $15 per bulb and was really easy. Get the bulb model and find a conversion chart to find a compatible bulb. The step lights do a good job lighting the deck but I...

What battery do you all like?

I don't have a major brand preference but I'm a big fan of dual purpose AGM. They weigh and cost more but for me they last twice as long as lead acid and no issues with maintaining water levels or explosive fumes.

Seafarer 228 Garmin 8610xvs vs new Simrad Evo3s?

I've been oogling over the flush mount photos but I really like that space behind for storing hats, cozies, sunglasses, flares etc... The only major concern I have with more and larger displays is I like to leave the FF on while fishing which can really draw down the batteries. One thing to...

    New enclosure for my 228

I just bought my 05 228 this spring, I don't think the roof and piping is factory installed and there is no elections box. I'm only 5' 8" so sitting or standing at the helm I'm mostly looking through the windshield at idle or cruise but being able to open it up for air and stand on a small...

    New enclosure for my 228

The hard panels are .060 Makrolon polycarbonate, it's clearer to some degree but the big difference is there is no distortion since it's a hard flat panel. The canvas shop said it's easier to maintain, more scratch resistant, and will last longer so we'll see. It was an expensive upgrade...

    Stainless Steel Cupholders

The ones on my 228 are really crappy but I'm concerned Stainless won't hold up.

    New enclosure for my 228

I just got photos from the installer and can't wait to see it. After much consternation I went with hard .060 polycarbonate front panels that flip up / zip/snap out vs roll up zips, the rest of it is. .040 strataglass with roll up side U's and roll up / removable 3 panel back. Also getting...

Seafarer 228 Garmin 8610xvs vs new Simrad Evo3s?

I think the difference is like Ford vs Chevy but my brother has the Simrad NSS 12 evo3 with the radar and it's really nice. Not sure if two integrated units can do this but one feature I really like is being able to tap on a bottom feature on the sonar to create a way point in the plotter...

2003 seafarer 228 hardtop canvas extension recommendations?

I'm thinking about rigging something for my telescopic roof mounted outriggers but it's a winter project.

    Removable compartment trays/liners

My 228 has them. Good for storing lines but they get wet and fill with water when it rains.

Use Fresh Water System To Flush Outboard

Good idea but I just use a 2 way valve on my garden hose when I'm cleaning up at the end of the day. One side flushing the engine while I hose the boat with the other side keeps it flushing for at least a half hour.

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

Lots of great info but I think the answer is, each boat and conditions are a bit different so the only way to know is to keep a log and test the boat in a variety of conditions at different trim levels. I like to

Buying a new Canyon 336, options?

Thank you all for the input. Before ordering a new build the dealer has a 2020 with the 3 300's in stock so they're offering some extra incentives on. Not the color we want and missing the refrigerated fish box which can't be added later. We can add the rest including more rod holders on...

    Complete rewiring

I had a rodent get into the bilge of my old Whaler and it wreaked havoc until I flushed him out. I never did it but i was advised to stuff bronze wool in any possible opening and leave rat poison in the bilge over the winter.

    New Battery Config for 265

Amamola, In case this isn't clear, if you use an isolator to the House (either ACR or isolator harness), and connect the other battery directly to the alternator and only use it for starting and possibly bilge pumps, with the right switch configuration the only switching needed is on/off at the...
