    Fuel milage?

My current Honda BF250D burns less than 1 gallon per hr up to 1000 rpm. That's over 4 miles per gallon if I recall my instrument readings. I can troll down to 2.5 miles per hour at 750 rpm, but bow steer is a problem at under 3.5 mph. This is with a 16" prop that turns just over 6000 rpm at...

    Transom mount transducer on 330.

Thanks for that picture and info, Skunk. I almost made that same location modification with my Simrad 3 in 1 transducer last month but chickened out at the last minute. I was unsure if there would be too much turbulence located just offset from the keel. I can't get much of a port side-scan...

    Rusty Horn

I use Flitz once a year and the horns stay rust-free. But they typically fail after a few years. I gave up and just keep them shiny but use an air horn. Running the Homosassa River on weekends or during scallop season without a reliable horn is dangerous.

Error in converted waypoint files. Possible?

.gpx is a universal format. Any MDFs that can save or import using the .gpx format should be able to share waypoints. But if .gpx is not the native format of an MFD (such as Simrad and Lowrance), exporting data in .gpx can strip out things like tracks and waypoint symbols. But the waypoint...

Error in converted waypoint files. Possible?

Be sure that your MFD is set up for the correct GPS waypoint format. There are 3 different ones. It's possible that the company used a conversion program that changed the format. DDD° MM' SS.S" Degrees, Minutes and Seconds DDD° MM.MMM' Degrees and Decimal Minutes DDD.DDDDD°...

    Recommended VHF Antenna Length?

VHF range is not an issue for contacting the Coast Guard. Their Rescue 21 coverage system is designed to communicate with a handheld radio at a height of 6 ft operating at low power (1 watt) over a range of at least 20 nautical miles offshore. The Delaware/NJ area is very well covered by...

Stainless vs bronze vs Marelon, SS screws

I've had really good luck with Marelon through-hulls and seacock/ball valve fittings over the years on aluminum hulls. All the stuff on the 1998 Siverstreak I sold to my buddy when I left the west coast is still original. It's a reinforced nylon that does not get brittle, at least when out of...

    intermittent complete power loss

I once had the same problem 40 miles offshore. The power and engine dropped out periodically all the way back in. The cause was a loose connection at the common ground stud on the transom. BTW, big Yamahas will not run without a battery connection.

    Rub tail end caps

I just replaced one on my 226. These are not quite the same color and the screw holes are different, but they match up pretty well. https://shop.hamiltonmarine.com/products/end-cap-for-rub-rail-plastic-1-1-2--black-3645.html Barbour Plastics makes a couple of different sizes if this one isn't...

    Black mildew

I used that Nautical One product for the first time this spring. It works great on vinyl and rubberized plastic trim. But while it doesn't seem to contain chlorine bleach, it has some other type of bleaching agent. I got some on my colored T-shirt and it left light-colored spots. So be sure...

    Trailering question

You should be fine but never tow for more than a few miles at low speed with the curtains up.

    Fire Extinguishers

The rules just changed this year and went into effect April 1. The specifications changed in 2016. https://chesapeakebaymagazine.com/coast-guard-changes-fire-extinguisher-requirements-for-boats/ I always changed them out after 8 years or so anyway.

    New Transducer Install

"I would stay with the existing hole (enlarged), no backing (same as you currently have), 20 degree transducer (after measuring). Use 5200 but sparingly when mounting the transducer and be sure you orient the transducer correctly for the angle." I agree, but I would not use 5200. There is no...

    ATF or Yamaha fluid

You should first check that the emergency relief valve is fully closed tight. That just takes a screwdriver. Leak down is typically not caused by a loss of fluid but check the fluid level anyway. It should be up to the bottom of the fill hole. Leak down is usually the result of a bad check...

Yep, that's how to do it. Older technologies like Flowscan are obsolete and less accurate.

My New Grady White Overnighter 204c

4200 won't run during the time it takes to get everything seated. You can only countersink the gelcoat under the washers on the inside of the transom, not the nuts on the engine itself. The idea is to form a little better waterproof seal. Not necessary, but a good practice.
