Wouldn’t it be the rear section light up when in nav mode and both for anchor mode? A white nav light should be Seen 180 deg from the rear while running.

When Things Don’t Go As Planned

The racor with the blue bowl are the very old style. The racor bowls have been clear for the past 15 years or so. Sometimes to get the racor to fit if it is close, I cut off the nipple, open the drain all the way, screw the filter to the head, then close the drain. This buys you an extra half...

On the water impressions of my 228

I seriously doubt any rubber made it to the power head. When impeller melts, becomes a gooey mush n sticks to the housing port and does not make it up the tube. Maybe use a wire brush on a stick to wipe out the inside of the copper water tube near the pump. Also blow a good amount of compressed...

On the water impressions of my 228

The best aftermarket replacement for your motor is 18-3396-1. Sierra part. This one comes with the housing, plate, gaskets, o rings, impeller, and bolts. Sierra makes great water pumps. not so great fuel filters though. When assembling housing, I use 3m 847 to seal the o rings so they don’t...

On the water impressions of my 228

The damage to the water pump is due to lack of water. If the hose falls off, weak water pressure, or you suck a bag for 10 seconds or so, the impeller melts into the housing. It depends on water to keep it cool. No water n it gets hot extremely quickly. I always use the flusher that supplies...

    Hawaii fun

That is a great catch. I need to be fishing in Hawaii. I have been planning a trip to Hawaii for the first time once COVID-19 is under control. Was going to do some diving. Fishing just went on the list of activities.

228 - making it water tight?

Haven’t worked on the new Tohatsu motor. Maybe like the E-TEC does it. They can pull start without a battery. Since Evinrude E-TEC doesn't need a charge coil or a sensor coil (because these functions are controlled by the EMM), a full-diameter stator which uses more windings is employed...

When Things Don’t Go As Planned

Shipping looks about 60us dollars for a 5 day ship to Australia for 1 filter. That’s crazy. I stock these filters by the dozens. If you have the bowl, you may be able to get the replacement element.

    Losing RPM

Those carb idle jets are set by bottoming out the setscrew and backing it off 1 1/2 turn. Then turn in just a very very small smidge. That is the magic setting for the Yamaha carbs on all those 2 strokes. I’ve done literally over a thousand carb rebuilds in my time.

When Things Don’t Go As Planned

Your racor replacement number is b23013 for the Yamaha size. The best fuel line on the market is oem Omc line. Not cheap but worth every penny.

    Losing RPM

I would replace the Sierra filters with oem racor filters for better protection. Dirt and water pass through Sierra filters easily. Then remove the screen inside the tank. This will let anything that is in the tank to get sucked up and caught in the racor. also Remove the check ball and...

    Nav lights- troubleshooting.

I had the same problem. I replaced my fixture with a new led one and replaced the connections at the switch. LED has less corrosion issues and is much brighter. I was tired of changing corroded bulbs.

Routine maintenance, no oil pump, and Rec fuel is the key. (Non ethanol). My boat is an 88 and has never seen ethanol.

    OX66 Troubleshooting Question - HELP!

If the pump jammed up it may be able to be cleaned and fixed. To free it up, hook it up to a battery on the bench n switch the pos and neg back n forth. Don’t run it more than a few seconds once it is free.
