Anyone have a bow rail for a 228 or know where I can get one?

After a considerable amount of work on the boat since buying it a few months ago, today I took the 228 out for the first time for a trial spin. Immediately I was struck by how much I hated the bow pulpit rail obscuring visibility of what was ahead of me. It wasn’t until I got home and was...

    Kicker steering on 228 Seafarer?

Today I mounted a used Yamaha T9.9 extra long shaft kicker onto the kicker bracket that was on the boat when I bought it. When I stepped back and took a look, I suddenly realized that there’s far too much distance between the front of the main 250 hp engine and the front of this kicker. A...

27 year old fuel tank is out! New tank design mod…

I tried using a winch on the front tied to the hardtop, and a cherry picker on the back, but the tank fought me something fierce to stay in its coffin. I finally said enough of this, and took a air chisel to the tank after removing one end of it. It was far easier to remove then, although I did...

Yamaha wire bundle won’t go in rigging tube

The plastic end of the Yamaha wire bundle is quite large in size, and it will not fit in the entrance to either rigging tube. The inboard most tube has a wire bundle wrapped in black corrugated sheath going from the battery to the helm, and the outboard most tube has the hydraulic steering...

1997 vintage 16-903 panel switch needed - where to find?

One of my switches is missing (bilge), and while I do plan to eventually upgrade the panel for the time I just want to replace the switch. According to Grady they are obsolete. Anyone found a drop in replacement that will work? Anyone have any old switches you will part with? Thanks!

Some success today rigging the 228 project

Three trips to the boat with an endoscope over three days and I still couldnt find the entrance to the rigging tubes. Today I lay on my back studying where I was going to have to cut a hole in the binnacle to see into the heart of darkness where wires go, and I had a "you dont suppose" moment...

Both battery bay hatches just fwd of transom have a steel rod with ball on both sides - what do they do?

It looks like they push pull something on or off or open or shut, but it’s hidden from view. It’s maddening how Grady gave so little thought to maintenance access In 1998. I can already tell I am going to have to purchase a quality endoscope so I can figure out what goes where and what is...

Where is the rigging tube entrance and exit?

The Grady 228 project boat i bought had its teleflex cables and wiring harness cannibalized so I am unable to see where they went. I am guessing that the entrance is underneath the binnacle throttle lever hole somewhere. There are wires that disappear to the starboard side of that opening but I...

New member would like to say hello

This is a wonderful forum and just from a few weeks of looking at it I can see that it is packed with years of knowledge. I just bought a 1997 Grady 228 project so I will be looking for information on here often. I have already solved one problem today by digging through archives. Good stuff!
