I just bought a '78 GW center console(not sure of the model).Believe it or not,a 1 owner boat.Mid '80's 150 Mercury. It's 21ft .The boat overall seems to be in pretty good condition. The usual nicks and scrapes after 30+ years! My question ; is there anything anyone is aware of ,that I should be looking for,as I get it ready for fishing next season? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Fuel tank, engine and transom/hull intigrity would be high on my list. Make sure it is seaworthy and stucture is sound before you get too carried away with the accessories. That's and old girl you have there.

Above. Also add working bilge pumps, batteries, safety gear, sea tow or equivalent.

Agree with the above. You can get a vessel safety check done by coast guard auxiliary for free. That may be helpful once you have addressed some items and gotten the safety gear - flares, life preservers, working radio, horn and lights (if they don’t work can get battery powered radio and lights and an airhorn).

They won’t inspect everything though - you may need to test bilge pumps, inspect drain hoses, fuel lines, etc. and if you have a trailer do some research about how to check the safety of the trailer before getting up to higher speeds.

Post some pictures!
