I am looking for some help. I am new to the forum and boating. I am a relatively new owner (2nd season) of a 1992 seafarer. I was trying to get the wash down working and broke the plastic handle for the seacock. The previous owner never used it. But this season i was hoping to get it working. The handle is on the outside of the live well approx 6 inches off the floor of the boat. I am trying to figure out my options. Do i order a new plastic handle/lever for the seacock? Is there something more sturdy out there? Is the plastic on easy to replace?

Plastic handle may have broken because the plastic had dried out.
Or perhaps because the seacock is frozen in position. You need to determine if it is frozen and either fix or replace it. Important if frozen closed, but critical if frozen open.

Went down tonight and played around with the boat. The seacock wasn't frozen it was the y -valve that broke. I figured out the seacock was in other compartment opposite the battery. There was a rod with a black knob at the end was the seacock lever and it was open all along. The live well would take water in and would drain. I figured out tonight that to close it you have to push the lever shut/down. I think now understand how to operate the seacock. Confirmation from the audience would be appreciated.
I ordered a new y valve and now understand that controls live well/wash down only operation. Next up I have to figure out the head! I will be back.

I broke my valve also, ordered a replacement and it was so tight it was just a matter of time until it went. I re-plumbed my washdown/baitwell to include this Groco bronze valve. Mounted mine on the interior bulkhead just under the port hatch lip, similar to this. Handle works in a horizontal 180 degree arc ...
Curmudgeon - great tip..! I worry every time I have to switch my plastic one that it is going to break - it just doesn't feel right. Did you make the sign too? Nice touch.
This isn't my set-up, but the only picture I have of the valve. I had a similar placard made at a trophy shop and mounted it on the cockpit side of the same bulkhead showing orientation of handle position to function. Also had one made for the battery switch, which is on the starboard side.
When I removed the 'Y' valve, I cut a small rectangle of 1/4" teak to cover the hole. Blends right in with the teak rod rack of my 225G ... :wink:
