Just bought a 1995 Grady 228 (closed transom with bracket) with a 225 hp Johnson Ocean Runner (carbed) on it. I've made two typical trips offshore now in average seas and got right at 1.7 mpg both times. Just checking with the team to see if this seems reasonable or not.

Boat has 146 gallons of fuel and was full. It has hardtop and a 15 hp kicker as well. Three people on board.

That sounds about right. My Yamaha OX66 (EFI) gets 2 MPG and I would guess that a carbed engine would get a little less.

Probably about right. My 2004 228 with F225 gets around 2.3 with a full load in easy seas.

As you get to know the boat, you will eventually learn the most efficient cruising speed and trim adjustments. My guess is that you will get 2 MPG once you do, in reasonable seas.
