Looking at a 1995 Seafarer - have heard of issues with the transom rot and other water related issues. Before I bring in a surveyor, what should I be looking at to tell if there's any issues with the transom? I walked on other Grady's of this vintage and noticed some soft decks, etc, but i don't want to get involved with a major project

:uhm Guess no one wants to talk to me
Sorry for taking up your space

I have a. 228 and ultimately I would suggest calling a surveyor. You could see if there is water in the bracket? Look for soft spots around the swim platform and perhaps around where the bracket attaches to the boat. Open up the stern compartments and look and feel around, use a flashlight, look at the electrical wiring, look for signs of water or simply how well cared for the boat . Pop the pie pan lids and look in the bilge with a ight and feel around with your hands. If you get wetness on your hands give them a sniff for fuel or what have you. These are just some ideas. To repeat myself, a surveyor with a moisture meter and so forth would be worth the investment on buying the boat.
