Does anyone have feedback about this engine ? yamaha 225 ox66 .

I've got the 1998. I hate to jinx myself by commenting on it though..but its solid. Pushed my 226 close to 30 mph at 4700 rpm and half tank of gas.
Drinks gas and oil like they're both a cheap commodity, but I hop in, crank her up and never get a complaint. She smokes, she's loud, she drinks, doesnt let me down, and i love her...wait a minute, am I talking about an engine?

Good stuff this model is a 1997 year were there any changes through the years. Ive heard that this is a workhorse is this true ?

Definite workhorse. One of Yamaha's most proven-reliable engine. It is out of fashion now because of the four strokes, but it is a great engine.

I love the 2 stroke OX66, I have a 1998 250. It is on a ISlander 268, and gets me up to 37 bMPH, with a full tank of gas!!! Starts every time! Smokes a bit, rough idle from time to time, but just wants to run like crazy!!

I have an '00 225hp OX66 on my 228 and it's the best boat motor I've ever owned. It isn't as good on the fuel as a 4 stroke but it is reliable and I've always been able to work on it myself. It now has about 750 hours. I cruise at 4200 RPM and about 40 MPH with a moderate load.

A typical offshore trolling trip is 50 miles out and this engine always get me out and back. I don't plan on repowering for quite a while.

I have the same engine. It is bullet proof, agree with all the other guys above that said she loves to run. Especially since I went to a 4-blade prop. It does smoke on start up and uses ALOT of oil. But I love it and would not trade it for a 4-stroke.
