1998 200 HP OX66

Gents,
My '99 motor had fuel injectors and O2 sensor. Looking at a '98 SW OX66 that is carbed. Is there much difference. Had great luck with fuel injectors and a little apprehensive about carbs. Need some thoughts. What is the difference in the engines? Does it still have a VST tank? No LP fuel pump? It still has an O2 sensor right? Are these engines problematic? Thanks guys.

If its a carbed motor, its not an OX66. It is however a "Saltwater Series".

I have one on the back of my 180, and my 228 that I had a few years back also had a carbed SWS motor. They don't look, smell or sound any different. The only difference is you have to go through a little more work to start them cold (prime the bulb, advance the fast idle, press choke, turn key, release key when motor starts...hold choke in and count to 3, then release it.)

There also is no VST on the carbed motors.....so less maintenance from that standpoint.

Ok, Ok I may be feeling some love here. No VST, no HP fuel pump, no O2 sensor, those are all good things. How many carbs? and how does the oil mix with the gas? My OX66 had a Mikuni oil pump with 6 outlets going into a manifold with 1-hose going into the VST. Is the OX66 more fuel efficient? Assuming the choke is solonoid activated; is that pretty trouble free. How 'bout adjusting the carbs? Sounds like I need to get a new shop manual. Too many differences. What are the weak points of the motor? Thanks

I had a1987 200 hp Yam carb'd engine that got approx 20 gph, repowered w/ a 2003 OX66 EFI and get approx 13 gph. So you will lose some fuel efficiency if you go back to a carb. Like Parthery said, harder to start.

The issue my 87 had was a non-stainless shift-shaft that rusted out. You won't need to worry about that w/ a 98 model. Good motors, just more thirsty than you have now.

I can't think of a thing that would make me go back to carbs on any engine that had a FI alternative ... :uhm

I went from a 200 carb to a 225 OX-66. I feel the newer motor starts easier, idles smoother, makes more power (it's a 225, of course), and is more fuel efficient to boot. Pretty good upgrade for me.
