I just repowered my 20' 77 Dolphin with an 03 carbureated Johnson 150, I was just wondering what the cruising and top end RPMs should be on what I assume is this common motor? It's replacing a 87 Suzuki 150, and I gotta tell ya, it's quieter, stronger, and so far, dead reliable. I almost went with a 2000 Ficht, but after seeing the opinions of those on this forum about that motor, opted for the traditional model.

Thanks!

Jim

Jim, not sure about 2003, but the 2004 model 2 stroke 150 runs between 4500-5500 wide open throttle with peak power at 5000rpm....you want to run just under that at around 4500 at full throttle......you may need to change the pitch of your prop to get at this rpm range with the throttle open.... if you're not reaching it and vice versa if you're over revving...this will give you the best combination of power out of the hole and top end/fuel economy.....check with your local Johnson dealer to verify the number for that motor.
