2005 330 Express Repower

We are almost ready to start repowering with 2014 250 ETEC's. Had enough of the high cost of maintenance of the 225 Yamaha 4-Strokes. We are going to install I-Con Controls and I-Command Guages. Has anyone had the repowering experience on a 330 Express? We think we have considered everything, but there is always something that pops up during the process that was unexpected. I am looking forward to comparing performance and efficiency and will share the results with the Forum. We have put about 480 hours on the Yamahas in the last 22 months, completing the Great Loop in July of 2012, but look forward to six years under warranty and minimal routine maintenance.

I personally think the Yamaha V6 four stroke is one of the easiest and least costly engines to maintain. But I'm a do it yourselfer for most maintenance tasks. The only thing I worry about with them is the occassional nightmare story we hear of with the dry exhaust corrossion in (mostly) the first generation engines. I don't know much about the ETECs but good luck with it!

A friend of mine just replaced his 1998 Yamaha 225 2-strokes with a pair of E-TEC 200HOs on his Stamas 29. He got the I-Con controls and I-Command gages and loves them. He put Rebel 19" props on them and said he hits close to 53 MPH. I was hitting 50 MPH with 19" Vipers but changed to 17" Rebels for better low-speed planing performance. I gave up a few MPH but it was a good trade.

I hope to upgrade to I-Con if I can find a good deal sometime. I'd love that sync button and the RPM jog feature.
