Hello,

I have a 2006 Bimini 306 that's in immaculate condition, except the windshield was broken this fall. I've been through Grady, Taylor Made, Marine Glass Specialties, etc. and not having much luck getting someone to reproduce the glass. I finally found a company that will bend a new piece if I send them the frame, but they have no digitized rendering of the original, so they were just going to guess on height and shape... for a small fortune. And, they are not willing to drill the glass for the 13 enclosure snaps.

Does anyone in NE Florida or SE Georgia have a Bimini or Canyon 306 with the older model glass windshield that would be willing to let me trace/measure the windshield on cardboard or butcher paper all the way down to the deck so that I could send them a template? Shockingly, Taylor Made doesn't seem willing to provide the CAD drawings and so far, Grady doesn't have them either. I'm not sure what to do about the snap holes, as those seem critical with this model. Any input or experience with this would be great. I've been at this since September and haven't made any progress. And if you have this model in NE Florida or SE Georgia, I'd very much appreciate being able to just trace and measure it myself. Thanks in advance for any help!

dont have them do the canvas holes. do that after yourself after you install it.

have you tried these guys?

I think I'd be contacting Kris Carrol at GW and request executive management at GW contact Taylor Made and request that the ball be moved on this. Seems crazy that neither firm is taking the bull by the horns and getting this resolved. At a minimum GW should get a 2nd source qualified if Taylor Made won't make things right.

Did you lost the parts of the broken windshield?
I thought the 2006 console and hard top piping is the same as my 2011 canyon and that there is no frame?
I had a windshield for my Panga bent in Costa Rica and it came out too much out of measure but i still could use it.
Maybe it was my fault with uncorrect measures and company bent it a bit too generic.
If i would have to make a windshield i would definitively send them the old one.

Yes the holes for the canvas can be drilled later, but thats tricky as the holes are near the edges what may be the reason the company you found refuse to drill them.

As Fishtales wrote, i would contact again GW to find a solution that they recover the technical design

Thanks guys for the input. I've learned that you really can't drill tempered glass without it exploding. Apparently it must be drilled before it's bent and tempered. Once it's tempered, it's chemically under significant pressure.

Shockingly, I've found nobody at Taylor Made to help and they've supposedly destroyed the mold and nobody can "find" the specs on the original, including customer support at Grady. Through my dealer, Grady made the order request of Taylor Made, they gave a very high estimate, which I paid in full through the dealer back in September, then in December the dealer got a phone call that they no longer have the mold and can't make the windshield. Even worse, I've been speaking with Grady customer support since December and they aren't getting anywhere either. And now, I can't even get a returned phone call from Grady "customer support".

I've been a Grady owner and advocate for 19 years. I was very near a purchase of a new larger Canyon; however, I'm unfortunately rethinking any future investment in Grady after this experience. It's frankly shocking and extremely disappointing for a company I've been promoting for so long. They can't even produce a CAD drawing of the windshield, so I'm resorting to making a template on my own and gambling on someone else to bend it and fit it in the old frame. Then, since they can't drill the holes, I have a whole new problem trying to figure out how the enclosure secures to the glass.

I'd be contacting Chris Carrol. If she can't help, you are going to have to work something custom.

so, not to sound like a jerk, but you are talking about a windshield for a nearly 20 year old boat. it may not be fair to write off a company because you cant find one part for an old boat. grady does do a good job with alot of things (general specs, vendor contacts, fuel tank drawings...). it sucks that you cant find what you want, but grady does try to be helpful and im sure you will find a way

i know that doesnt help, so here is a what i have to help...if you get one made without holes for the canvas, you could likely alter your canvas so it doesnt attach with snaps. you could have a rail that would adhear to the windshield and the canvas would have a slide that would go into the rail.

Could try something like Alien Tape on the windshield snaps. Only going by the commercials... Not sure if that stuff works that well with small pieces though.

I can solve your windshield snaps problem.

I replaced my 2004 Bimini 306 windshield with a new 2nd market one and it matched perfectly. This is where I ordered it from. Good luck.
