Last season I mounted a Garmin 24xHD radome to my hardtop. I put it on the hump of the hardtop with the front of the radar overhanging the hump. It is mounted directly to the top.
Question. I have to increase the gain to about 80% to pick up nearby targets. I estimate the true range is maybe 8 miles. Those with radomes did you mount it to the top directly? Do I need to add washers to the aft section to improve performance ? Should I buy a 6 inch mount? I trailer my boat a lot so increasing the radar height does not sound appealing,but if it really helps improve performance I will do it. Any tips or ideas welcome. Thanks.
