While shopping for a used 258 have come across a nice freshwater 248 with a f225. I don't care about the topside redesign changes. But specfically the stepped bottom with a 4stroke single. I know the weight of 4s (especially twins) prompted the change...but what about a single? This boat is in storage so I don't know if the scuppers stay above water or if the lower unit when trimmed up clears the water. I'm ok with amount of hp being just adequate, but don't want one that might be tail-heavy....thanks

I have a F225 on my 94 Seafarer and have no problems with it. The scuppers sit just under water if its full of gas and load with 3 people, ice, gear to fish. The 2 other scuppers in the motor well never go under. I think you will be fine with it on the 248.

Tom: The notched transom will not be a problem with an F225. Actually, I think it will be just about right. You may experience a little bit of stern squat for a second or two when coming up on plane. But it is nothing that you can't offset with trim tabs. And in a following sea, when you may want to keep the bow up, you'll likely have to trim your engine up less than I do to keep the bow up.

The 248/258 sells about as many boats with single engines as it does with twins. So Grady had to balance the hull for both applications. The 248 was also sold with twin 115s and twin 150s. The F225 doesn't present a problem for that hull.
