Good Day! I'm looking for first hand experience with these two boats (you don't have to own either). I have completed searches both on this forum and internet search engines and I haven't had much luck. I am currently in the market for a used Grady 258 or 270. I have found several that are within my price bracket. Since these are both narrow beam boats. does the added length of the 270 provide anything besides a stand up head and additional operational costs over the 258? Please be specific in your replies. Thank you!

Bored: I can tell you about the 258, but have not run a 270 on the water. They are similar layout. As I recall, the 270 uses the additional 2' to add a standup head and small galley in the cabin. Beyond that, the actual berth area and the cockpit size are about the same. We did not want the extra amenities in the cabin. Also, I wanted to stay with a single engine. So opted for the 258.

I would imagine that the additional 2' has to give a slightly better ride in a chop.

If you have any specific questions about the 258, ask away.

Haven't been on a 258.

Purchased out 270 new in March 2002 with a single 250HP OX66. Put 465 hours on it before repowering to twin F150s in Nov 2005. Now have 865 hours on the twins. We use the boat a lot.

While the 270 was sold in a lot of areas with a single 250HP OX66, I think that was barely adequate. It is rated at 500HP, and is a different boat with the twins.

If you really want a single engine, get the 258.

If you really want a stand-up head (very nice to have), get a 270 with twins.

Holler if you have specific questions.

We fish from the lower Chesapeake Bay to the Norfolk Canyon, 75nm offshore.

Thank you both for the replies. I greatly appreciate it. When I decide which one to purchase, both will be equipped with twins. There doesn't seem to be a lot of these two models around (compared to 282's) so it is even more rare when someone has first hand experience with both boats. I am patient. I hope there are more supporters of this forum out there who can add to this discussion. Thanks again for your input.
