Soon to be mounting new 300’s on my 282 and the original motor height from Grady was up one bolt hole from all the way down. Leaving one bolt hole open above the bolt.

I never saw the ventilation plate so going to go up one bolt hole from factory original.

Does anyone have their motors on the sailfish up two bolt holes from all the way down?

I don't have experience on the 282 but have experienced 1st hand that GW tends to bury props to make for a more 'robust' set-up at the sacrifice of efficiency and top speed. I think the trade off is typically worth it for most, but if you are the type of person that wants to get the most out of your engines, you will likely be able to squeeze another 0.1-0.2 mpg + another 1-2 mph on the top end. Cruise efficiency band could be improved too. To get there you might have to play with different props and you still might be a little more sensitive to ventilation/traction issues depending on sea conditions, load, turn radius, etc. That said, every boat is different. You won't know for sure unless you try it.
