When they're running right the 300 HPDI is the balls. They had problems with the oiler that the factory covered past the warranty. Design deficiency that was upgraded. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the upgrade is stored in the computer. Definately get an engine survey from a Yam dealer. The tech will have diagnostic software and plug in his laptop and advise any current or past problems and if the oiler upgrade was performed.
Also, all the HPDI's are real sensitive to clean fuel. I'd consider the 2-micron fuel filters. They flow 60-gal/hr and should work fine with the 300's.
