335 Electrical Issue?

Hello Fellow Grady Owners! I'm hoping someone here has had a similar issue or might be able to assist me with what I think is an electrical issue.

I have a 2016 335 Freedom with 350 Yammis with about 230 hours. I was recently having some work performed and noticed that the auto-retract for the trim tabs kept cycling every 3-4 minutes. The boat stays plugged in with the batteries off and charger on. When I turn the batteries on the helm lights up, Yamaha screen shows "Yamaha" and then turns to just a dim backlight screen (no data), the binnacle lights up and the tabs are illuminated. Note - the ignition is off at this point. A few minutes later the binnacle lights go off, Yamaha backlight goes black and the tabs are no longer illuminated. A minute later the cycle starts again and on and on.... It's worth noting it does the same thing if the ignition is on (motors off). All of this is happening while the boat is on the charger. I have techs looking into it but they've been scratching their head so far.

The batteries are about 1.5 years old. I'm wondering if I have a battery going bad and voltage is dropping? Any ideas what may be going on??

Only when on the charger? Is the HPU, or just the lights cycling?

I haven't tried it when off the charger. I can try that.

Tried it with the charger off and same issue. The tech seems to think the Yamaha network is going to sleep and then being triggered to wake up but can't figure out what is causing it.

The auto retract feature on the trim tabs works off a solid state relay and timer that senses voltage to the ignition. When the ignition is turned off, the relay is de-energized and provides 12 V to auto retract the trim tabs via a timer. My guess is you are gaining/losing the ignition voltage signal intermittently and the timer is cycling. But that’s how the trim tabs auto retract feature works. If you have had NMEA 2K network maintenance recently it could be providing power to your ignition with the key off and cycling for some reason. The Yamaha network (Command Link) has its own 12V source and if improperly connected to your NMEA 2K network which has a separate 12V power with the batteries turned on, it can provide 12V to your Command Link system with the ignition key off. Usually on a boat as new as yours when something like this happens it has been caused by improper maintenance. On my 330, the Yamaha Network is not active with both keys off and batteries on. My boat does not have any trim tab indications with the keys off and the batteries on. Your mechanic may be confused, but this is my best guess. Good Luck!
