Good evening - I'm new to this forum and have enjoyed reading the posts regarding Grady White boats. There has been some great discussion and advice. I'm in contract for a new-to-me 2000 300 Marlin that I will repower with F250's when the deal is done. I'm hoping the surveyor will catch any deficiencies in the transom or water intrusion. Is there anything some of you other captains may have noticed that we should be looking out for? This boat has had (2) owners and the current owner traded it in for a 36 Edgewater. I know these boats are built like tanks, but on another forum I did talk with a few owners that had transom rot and issues with the added weight of the 4-strokes over the original OX66 250's.

I did see on this forum an owner with a 1995 Marlin and F250's, and no issues. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

welcome aboard.

as always, get a thorough survey.

the new 4 strokes are much lighter than the old. i know someone who repowered an '01 marlin w/ f250's and so far all results have been positive.

good luck, ron

We had a 2000 GW 272 Sailfish that we repowered with Yami F250's from Yami OX66 225's. We regularly fished and dived her hard with several people and gear and never had any isssues. Crossed the pond to the Bahamas twice with her and again no isssues.

So with the added beam of the Marlin, and assuming she has a solid transom, you will be fine with the F250's hanging on the back.

I have a 1997 Marlin that I repowered in 2002 with F225's. I dont think the F250's weigh much more. No problems at all in 11 seasons, boat runs great with the F225's so the F250's should do just as good but may be a little bit more thirsty. I have never heard of any Marlins having transom issues. Good luck, enjoy the boat it is a tank and rides wonderfully.
