Found a killer deal on a 4 hp kicker. Ive been looking for a 9.9 for months. Cant find one. Do you guys think the 4hp would push a 246 at 5-7 knots?

I was going to say, my neighbor has essentially a brand new Yamaha 6 hp outboard kicker motor on his 12' aluminum dinghy and with him and I in there we were barely getting up on a plane. I doubt a 4 hp outboard kicker motor would do anything even remotely close to 7 knots with your 246, which has a dry weight without the motor at around 3,600 lbs. With the weight of the motor, half tank of fuel and moderately loaded I'd bet you're around 5k lbs, if not more. I kind of doubt that 4 hp kicker would do much of anything to help push it along.

Here's a Yamaha 9.9 on Craigslist as well as a 15 hp outboard kicker motor, if that helps out at all...

No way. My Seafarer 228 gets just over 5kts with an almost new Yamaha T9.9, just under 6kts if I tilt up the main engine. Against a strong headwind and seas, with the curtains on I barely make headway and I've had windy days I could not tack into the wind if I didn't tilt up or help steer with the main engine. Keep looking and make sure you get the long shaft.
