Decided to tackle the VST filter this year on 2007 F250 Yamaha's with 373 hours. After seeing the filter element I was glad to change them.
I had a lot of what I guess was phase separation in the fuel last year. I would dump the filters out into a jar and you could see what looked like heavy varnish settle to the bottom.

Also did the cylinder head zincs. Found 3 or the 8 ports between has seals that were starting to go bad and deteriorate causing some pitting of the sealing surface.
Also all 4 thermostats. One head had some deep erosion were the brass from the thermostat is very close to the aluminum.

Then I am doing the dreaded Fischer Panda water pump impeller. You may want to hire a contortionist from Circus De Soleil for this. It is doable.
Best thing is to get a set of very long seal picks with the different angles at the tip to help catch the wing nuts and lock washers and it does help when installing them.

Looks to me like you did a great job. And saved yourself a ton of money! Removed the whole rear deck huh?

Amazing what those VST filters look like after 300 - 500 hours. I just had mine swapped out (as well as the T-Stats) but had to pay a yard as my boat doesn't have a trailer and I won't tackle that kind of job in the slip.

I assume you swapped out the "F" filter as well right? The one above the VST...
And yes, that impeller on the Genset is a bear to swap out.
I have a whole collection of SS wing nuts sitting in the bottom of my generator case! Nice job. Now you're set for a few years.

Yes I did do the F filter since it is easy to get at. I did change it two years ago without pulling the intake.
They too started to turn color but not as bad as the ones I took off then.

I was hoping to be able to reuse the rubber intake seals over again due to the cost at 20 bucks each for the head end.
The throttle body side was fine but one side of each of the cylinder head seals were kinda molded flat I guess due to the heat from the head.
I was able to get six seals for what I disturbed and I wanted to do the other sides as well seeing the condition of the seals.
Now they are on a nationwide back order and you can't them until the end of April.

Wow, guess I better look at doing those too.
