Is the aluminium trim around the cutout area of an Adventure transom just for looks or does it serve some purpose. I looked at one and the trim piece was pulled out in one corner. The transom itself seemed unaffected. There was no swelling of the transom but I also could not see any scrape marks to explain the defect. What do you think? Any real reason for concern?

That is one of the prime areas that can lead to water intrusion on the Adventurer. If the trim is loose, it should be reattached and sealed. The trim is sealed with marine silicone around the edges. If the trim comes up, use some 4200 to seal any screw holes.
Of course if the motor is off, you can pull the trim and make sure the transom core is sealed well. If not, aplly resin to seal and reattach the trim. Don't use 5200, you will not be able to remove the trim without damage if you need to in the future.
If water gets under the trim, it can freeze and swell in the winter. The trim has to be sealed completely on all edges

Good advice!
