Hey guys....I have owned a few Grady's in the past with the last being a 25 Trophy Pro that I did a full restoration on. Sold that in 2016 and purchased a Formula 280SS which I absolutely loved, but realized for our needs a bowrider would be a better fit. I took advantage of the Covid craziness and sold the boat to look for a bowrider of like size, but with outboards. Just to add I also have a 20' SeaOx center console that I bang around on, and my kids have a BW 17 Montauk. As life often gets in the way with kids and sports, I stopped looking for a year or two.
Casual internet searches became more serious after the new year, and considering everything I was looking for I honed in on the 27' Grady DC. I wanted something I could handle alone, trailer and store myself in the winter. Big enough for snotty Great South Bay waters, but small enough that I can maneuver in tight spaces. I also did not want a hardtop as this will be more of a cruiser. So the search was on and I found what I thought was a too good to be true listing in Carolina.
Single owner, fresh water boat kept on a lift, new interior, brand new 2022 Ace trailer...with only 170 hours. After a few emails and phone calls I hopped a flight to lay eyes on her and visually inspect/sea trial.
This wealthy businessman kept it at his summer house on Lake Norman and used it to take his wife to dinner (hence the low hours). Retired and moved full time to his place in Vero Beach FL...and no longer needed this boat as he has a 42 Sabre in FL.
Everything checked out and a week later it's in my backyard. Although I didn't get a screaming deal on the boat I felt it was fair considering it has a brand new trailer that probably worth $6k. I paid $75k but still have to invest some money in her. I already have a bow and mooring cover in the works and as much as it pains me...I have to have the bottom painted.
Everything on the boat works, it has a new Fusion radio and a 2 year old 12" Garmin unit. And for a 16 year old boat, she is meticulous!
She cruises at 4200 rpm's, 30 mph, top end 42 mph...more than enough for me. My go fast days are long behind me.
So it feels good to be back in the Grady world...and eager to start putting some hours on her and burning fuel!
