Bizzare engine power loss on hard bumps

2000 Seafarer 225 Yama 2 stroke Saltwater Series - Everytime she takes a hard bump engine losses all power for 1 secnd then comes right back on. It would be like turning a light switch from on to off & back on in 1-2 seconds. On land - checked fuel pressure, filter & clarity of fuel all ok - checked grounds some mild build up cleaned & tightned - Batteryswitch inspected tight & clean -- Any thoughts??? Bad Ignition Switch??

VST filter. Do a search, the procedure for cleaning it has been posted here before.

It hasn't happened to me personally, but I've read many posts about it.

Good luck...and be careful when you remove the bottom of the VST tank. If the gasket gets stretched, it might not go back into place (but new ones are easy to get).

Hey Capt Morgan, that's a common problem i've come to learn. 8 days ago my 2 stroke 2000 250hp yamaha started doing the same thing. Power would cut out at high RPMs (5000 or so) for an instant and return as quick as it left. I thought originally it was the power pack but came on here and a number of guys said it could be the VST filter. I cleaned it TODAY and took it for a ride and it ran beautifully. I'm confident that's what it is. Filter is located on the port side of the engine underneath the fuel pump if i'm not mistaken. Take the filter out, clean the screen (or buy a new one if you'd like), and you should be all set...Good luck.

The feedback is much appreciated. It originally felt like one of those problems I'd be chasing for years! I'm on it this weekend & I'll let you know how it turns out.

It is one of 2 things... a loose wire or more likely a clogged filter, biggest culprit is vst tank, but could also be screen at pick up as well. Check the fuel system first, much easier to do, if that is not it then it is electrical, I had an engine do it but it got worse and then died all together, was a loose wire, but I've seen similar things happen and more times then not it was VSt tank clogged with some particles.

That was the initial indication that I was about to embark on a long drawn out issue with e10. Bottom line, it was a filter issue.
