Today I was in an antique market in Asheville for work. I came across a ton of old National Geographics and I started to look through them. Not for the articles mind you but for the art work in the ads. I love looking at how artistic we once were selling stuff. I came across an ad from 1966 the year before I was born from Evinrude. In the ad they were touting their Lark 40 one of the most advanced outboards of its day with electric start. They said it was the most popular motor on more boats than any other outboard. It offered greater reliability for all day trolling and it was more.than strong enough to pull slomon skier.
I love old outboards and if I had money to blow perhaps I would collect them. Back in 1966 40 hp was huge. When you look at advancements in outboards since the late 70s until now it has been amazing to say the least. In 40 years since that ad we have 4 strokess big as car motors and nearly as reliable too for all day trolling. I wonder if you could go back in time and talk to engineers at Evinrude and asked them about the future if they would have seen or predicted todays motors? It was like listening to that Alan Jackson song Drive....
