Hello everyone...
We just got a 1998 Sailfish 272 and are getting familiar with it. We've never had a boat with outboard engines before so this is very new to us. Today we tried to start up the boat and nothing.... The engine starter turns but no start up. The tilt works up and down but the instruments and rest of the electronics do not work. There is no power in the cabin. The batteries are good and the boat is full of gas. Is there a "kill switch" or a fuse that we may have triggered?? If so, where should we look??

Any advice is appreciated....

Thanks

catch22 ...

Yes.... It's on....after testing the batteries again, one of them is reading as bad....the one that goes to the "accessory"?? I'm guessing this is the one powers the cabin, instruments, etc??

*sigh*

Thank you for the responses....

You can imagine how silly I felt after double checking that battery and seeing it was dead.... LOL

just in time - We had it connected to the boat charger but had some workers come and work on the boat lift. They unplugged it and threw it on the deck so that's why we were worried something was shorted out or it activated a kill switch...LOL

Just goes to show..... don't panic before you jump on the forum... hahaha

After taking the battery to a local boat shop and replacing it, it works like a charm!! The engines are still a little sluggish on start up but I'm thinking that might be because the other 2 batteries need replacing as well. It's a work in progress and we learn something new every day.

Thanks for the help...

Keep in mind that depending on how your batteries are wired, you may discharge your new battery if the others are weak. In oversimplified terms, the weaker batteries will bring the strong battery down to their level.
