1988 Overnighter -- terrible paint job peeling off and all over the trailer rollers -- don't know what kind of paint it was (blue). How can I remove it? How can I get it up in the air off the trailer? I will not be keeping the boa in the water but it will be used in salt water -- can I go without bottom paint?

If it were me I would have it professionally soda blasted. Then either put a high quality bottom paint on, or if it's going to be on a trailer then have it shot with LP. In that case I'd probably have them shoot a waterline too since you'll never match the hull sides.

You don't need anti-fouling bottom paint if the boat is not going to sit in the water. Mine has never had paint on it and is a sticking point for getting a slip. I think it depreciates the value of a trailerable boat by at least the cost of application and removal of bottom paint, possibly more.

Linear Polyurethane. On yachts they call it 'gettin a Awlgrip' job.

Here's Pascoe's article on yacht painting:

You can google awlgrip and competing yacht coatings. Professional application is highly recommended. This isn't something you apply with a paint brush.
