Just purchased a '96 192 Tournament. Had my heart set on this boat for use as day-night, rain-shine transportation to a boat-access-only camp in the Adirondacks (about a 5 mile ride from camp to marina).

I want to make some improvements and need advice:

1) I want to replace the standard port side G/W chair with a front back extending lounge chair. I cant find any info on how far forward the gas tank extends and the width of the gas tank. Don't want to drill into it mounting the new chair. How can I locate where the tank is to avoid puncturing?
2) Not sure how thick the deck is or the best fasteners to use to hold the new chair in place. Any thoughts on fastener length and type?
3) Helm is quite stiff. Can the mechanical helm assembly be maintained or lubricated some how? Should I consider installing a hydraulic system?
4) Can's seem to find a G/W parts list on line. Need to replace the anchor locker hatch cover and some dashboard cover hinges. Can they be bought on-line or do I have to go to the nearest G/W dealer which is quite a distance from here?

Thanks in advance to anyone who could offer me some advice.

First....welcome....and know that we are a much happier crowd when you post pics. We call it "boat porn."

You can register and download the owners manual for the boat on GW's website...the manual will have the schematics including tanks, rigging tubes, etc... The 1994 192 had a livewell behind the captains chair as an option so you should have plenty of room to put a back to back seat there.

You will definitely want reinforcement underneath. I'd use SS fender washers and nylock nuts...I'd also think about running a bead of 4200 around the base to seal it and keep water from getting under the seat.

There are a couple of zerk fittings which you can lube and see if that helps the steering. I'd also consider unbolting the steering arm from the motor and see if the motor turns back and forth easily. That will help narrow it down as to whether its the bushings in the engine, or the cable itself. Hydraulic steering is nice, but it will be more expensive than just replacing the cable. I've owned a 180 and 190 GW - both with cable steering, and they did just fine. You just have to be diligent with your maintenance.

GW only sells factory parts through it's dealers....but most items are sourced from vendors like Perko, Southco, etc... The key is finding out the part number....then you can shop for it.

Welcome to the forum centurion. I too have a 1994 tournament 192. Love the boat. On the port side bench seat, I suggest contacting Grady White customer service and requesting the "build sheet" for that year. I have not done this myself, but know others who have. This should provide you with information on location and dimensions of the tank. Regarding spare parts, you will need to just search the net, as Grady may not Cary them. I suggest posting on this forum what you need and others can help in terms of where to find the stuff. Regarding the anchor hatch, you may consider contacting Grady white to see if the dimensions on the new 192 Freedom are the same. The boats look identical to me. I would bet the anchor hatch has not changed. In fact, I bet you could buy a new bench seat used in the 192 Freedom and install that in your 192 tournament - fancy. Good luck with your projects!

I've decided to repower with a 150 Evenrude E-Tec 150. Was able to sell the original Mercury 200 that came with it. I am going to install hydraulic steering with the new engine. That should take care of the stiff helm problem.

Still need info on the deck design for installing the new seat. I don't see access to the underside to allow installation with bolts and nuts. That leaves screws or a molly type fastener. Does anyone know the thickness of the deck for installing seats on this boat and the preferred fasteners?

I had a 192 and it had the reclining seat. The gas tank is center line mounted and you could remove the gas tank lid and see where the bracing and so forth is located.
