Got this done this past week. Aft cabin 3 cushions and V-birth 4 cushions. Got the 2 curtains to go...
I reused the cushions and backside with the zippers. Pretty easy to knock off. $120 for the fabric, had the sail thread and wife did the sewing.

Nice Job! Just finished the cockpit and helm seats and bolsters and might conquer the inside next!

Thanks. I wanted something with more pop than the stogy brown twead and after 19 years it was time. Really not that bad of a job at all. Getting some of the cushions in the covers was tricky but not too bad. If we stayed on the boat, I'd opt for a thick over mattress, but those days are over.

Put the cushion in a trash bag, with the bag opening opposite side from the zipper. Stick the shop vac hose in the end of the bag, and suck it down. Hold the bag closed until you get the cushion in, and pull the bag out of the zipper opening.

Thanks, but I got it done by compressing and folding.

I used the silk material. It helped but some of the larger pieces of foam are much larger than the zipper length. No matter what, you've got to fold, compress and work them in.

Actually, there are many different types of foam, If you have quick dry foam, you can put silk film on it to compress, but most of it needs to come off before zipping back off. Other foam requires silk film (this is what I use, from Sailrite.com) to cover it so it will not mold. Don't use just any covering as regular plastic will degrade quickly and will make terrible sounds when someone sits down. Just redid all my seats on our Grady White 330 Express.

I modified a nice ,regular bed mattress cover to fit the v-berth area. It makes it a bit more comfortable.
