Can I add HPDIs on my 2001 GW 265 EXPRESS? It has the 200 HPDIs on her now. The boats rated for 500 HP. Not sure how much more the 250ies are. Anyone done this?

Looking for drug runner speeds or to enter 250 HPDI vs. F250 boat pull contest ?

I would never trade reliable 200 hpdis for 250 hpdis. No technical reason you could not, but the 250s would worry me every time I turned the keys, and kill resale to boot.

Of coarse you can its your boat :D . I put a 90hp merc on a 15 whaler . That boat will make you a believer!! :o

lol ok, well I just wanted to know if the boat could handel the weight and HP of the HPDI 250 IES. I am ok with the twin 200 HPDIs I have now, but down the line if I wish to repower. Thanks for the info.

Jim - This was my exact reaction.
The 250 and 300 HPDI have some history.
The boat is rated for 500hp - if I ever have to repower it will be with F250's, but I will also have a glass guy move my scuppers up a couple of inches.

Thanks Guys, I was looking at some used ones. I did not know that Yamaha stopped making them. Wow. I hope they keep making the 200 Yam HPDI'S.

I'm sure there are plenty of 250 HPDI SW motors in stock available and leftovers, call several dealers and Ed's.

The 200 HPDI SW version is in production, 10 yrs and going strong.
From day 1 to now, not one stinking manuf. problem or recall.

If Yamaha gives it up, more market loss to Opti and Etec.

Ironically the entire fresh water Yamaha HPDI product line is in production same as orginally, and the big block 250/300 HPDI has been upgraded about a year ago to second generation HPDI.

Stay away from the 250 HPDI motor. Had some issues. The 200 HPDI is bullet proof. If you were to change take a look at the F250 if it is not too heavy for that model.

If you got a good pair of 250 HDPIs the boat can handle them. If I was to repower my '00 265, I would consider adding ONE HUNDRED MORE HORSES too! I'd also look into 250 ETECs but that would involve all new controls/gauges etc.

Their freshwater line, (Vmax, series 2) are also all 20 inch shaft.

Seems like the're pushing the 4 strokes on everyone. Imo, once they worked out the bugs, (series 2) they should have kept the higher hp saltwater hpdi's, (25 inch shaft).
