I have discussed this in my post in the general discussion side of the forum but I figured I'd put the details here where it belongs.
As I am constantly trying to update and restore my '87 Overnighter where and when I can while I am starting a project to update and restore the gauge/switch panel I couldn't ignore the corroded capacity plate. It looks nasty and while everything else around the helm will look new and right it will stand out like a sore thumb.
I went on a search for a replacement. First stop, Ebay. While I found a lot of plates for other brands there were none for Grady and it doesn't seen like you can get a blank plate either. That is presumably to avoid forgery? My next step was an email to Grady White customer service and I also asked about the Overnighter 20 dash plaque. Terri Adams sent back an email the same day nicely saying they no longer make or stock the dash plaque and the capacity plate would have to be purchased from NMMA.
She added I would need the hull ID when I call. Their number is 312-946-6200. I called a couple of times but were unable to reach an operator so on the third call I reluctantly left a message. Personally I prefer speak to a person directly and refuse to interact with ant automated response system.
Ok later that evening I was returned a call from a NMMA rep Melissa. I learned that you can get a replacement capacity plate if you provide the hull ID but thats if your boat is no older than 10 years old. Thats as far back as they keep records. Could I provide my info or even the old plate to have a new one made. No sorry.
Melissa said that I should be able to go to any print shop that makes Mylar decals to have a duplicate plate label made.
That may be true but If I hit a print shop up for a one off capacity plate label I may be in for paying much more than I'd like.
Does anyone know of a print shop that has done this before and considers this a routine thing?
Mike.
