I gave up on replacing the painted GW screws. This year I have kids replacing them all with marine SS screws in the cockpit, cabin and head areas. The stock ones are total junk in my opinion. They feel lighter than the SS ones and certainly do not hold up in the saltwater environment. I wish Grady would stop using these inferior screws.

The title of your post could be misleading (lol).

I find that this season at least five or six of these painted screws have loosened and needed to be tightened on our boat. Are you saying the screws are rusting, the paint is coming off or they are snapping off? I do not recall any of mines rusting or chipping.

paint chips and rusting for the most part.... pretty common in the northeast according to my dealer.

I have been changing mine out 6 or so at a time. I agree the original Grady color ones do not hold up. When the cooler weather finally reaches us,I plan to change the remaining ones out for SS.

Couldn't agree more.....

Started replacing mine last year......additional whine about the black(rusty) screws used to install the switch and engine instrument panels. Broke 3 of them last year....had to drill them out.....now all stainless.
