I am dealing with rust and water in the fuel tanks and inspecting thru the pie plate i found the manufacturer sticker loose and lifting it up found corrosion below where it peeled off by itself
As it's a used boat i have no idea what happen, but someone scratched the surface with a pointed tool what probably let water seep between fuel tank and sticker and pulled on the sticker what peeled away the fuel tank protective painting, probably etch primer for aluminum.
One thin i am thinking about is how to make a gutter between deck and the sender and elbows to let dripping water flow between fuel tank and bulkheads.
I will seal the notorious leaking pie plates again but with butyl rubber and a new O-Ring if i can find one, if not install the screw-on pie plate or have made a round SS plate to bolt down.
As i will repower my 306 Canyon with new outboards i would like to have clean fuel tanks and for this reason i probably pull both for a in-depth inspection and in case of doubt replacement.
I don't understand why tank manufacturers don't make fuel tanks with the upper part slightly curved so that water will flow away and not poodle and lead to corrosion.
