How do I get the pads off the boat. Looks like there is some sort of bracket with a through and through wood screw anchoring the whole shebang.

the one on the back just pop it up and un snap it.

They all do that, even on the splash well . When I first bought my '00 265 in '03 I thought about removing them and storing them indoors for the winter,
but there were holes for access behind them.
I decided not to because if an animal ever got in there it could get comfortable and screw things up ( chew wires etc).

The one on the back just pops straight off (up). If it is stuck, I would use a 2X4 along the bottom edge and tap it up with a hammer. Watch out on the side pads though. They pop up as well but there are also retaining screws along the bottom edge. Check under the gunnels and you should be able to see where the screws come through. On the outside, look for the small grommets along the bottom edge. You need to take a small Philps head screwdriver and push through the grommet and feel around for the screw head. Screws will back out through the grommet hole. Not very elegant - I think at the factory they just used self tapping screws jammed through the grommet holes. Getting the screws back into the same holes is a real challenge. Mighe be easier to just jam them back through and re-tap if everything doesn't line up perfectly when you put them back on.
